Academics  
  • The Cottonwood Youth Academy provides 6 full-time teachers, one licensed Speech Communication Specialist, an additional part time special education teacher, a part time Occupational Therapist and one teacher assistant.  Cottonwood Academy is accredited by the Northwest Accreditation Commission (NWAC) and is approved by the Utah State Office of Education
  • Upon entry into the program each student is given a Wide Range Achievement Test, 4 (WRAT), an intelligence analysis and a career assessment. Additional assessments are given to students receiving special education services. Students with active IEPs will have a formal IEP review by the special education department.
  • Cottonwood operates on a year round, three semester program. The year round program allows the school to offer a credit recovery program for students who are behind in graduation credits. This provides the student an opportunity to catch up and possibly earn their high school diploma. Students attend classes Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM- 4:00 PM on a 240 day schedule.   All Credits earned are transferred back to the student’s home school.
  • Cottonwood’s Education Program is comprised of five major components:
    1. High School Program – Available for both adolescents and adults,
    2. GED Preparation for both adolescents and adults,
    3. Credit Recovery
    4. Adult Education Program – Emphasizing vocational preparation and life skills. For academically prepared residents there is an online college program an off campus education opportunities.
    5. Special Education
